Clinic Objective
To provide a logical groundwork on how to successfully apply contemporary rudimental percussion to the drum set.

I want the individual to be able to find immediate improvement in their playing due to their knowledge of the 40 PAS rudiments as well as the more contemporary rudiments that have evolved. Both clinics have much the same intent. One is specifically geared towards the marching percussionists and the other towards those interested in the application of rudiments however, are not rudimentally trained. With the knowledge of a few certain basic rudiments you have the ability to immediately apply those to the drum set in a very conventional and tasteful manner.

I find that rudimental percussionists and non-rudimental percussionists have a lot they can learn from each other. To become intimidated by the others strengths and intimidated by your own weaknesses seems self-defeating. During this clinic I try to bridge the gap between these two drumming communities, showing the strengths and the weakness of rudimental percussion. I encourage the audience to make educated decisions on what works and what doesn't. Not ALL rudimental techniques can apply successfully to the drum set. Not ALL rudimental philosophies can apply successfully to the drum set. Once you explore rudimental percussion you will find something's that work and some that do not. You can use the positive aspects and either adjust or dispose of those that do not work.

I myself have been brought up in the marching percussion community and have successfully made the transition to drum set at the professional level, as have many others. I found it to be a difficult transition just as the non-rudimental player finds it difficult to become a more technical player. However, each transition can be made with more ease with a little motivation and the correct information. This clinic shows the benefits of being a rudimental drummer and a non-rudimental drummer, and leaves it up to the individual what aspects of each they would like to involve in their own playing.

Clinic Reviews

"Inselman's clinic was hot, fresh and cutting edge! The combination of his insane chops and his music-minus-one approach to performing alongside and discussing tracks from his debut recording, Perfectly Human, makes his clinic one that you must see! I highly recommend this one!"

"Ryan Inselman was great for our Day of Percussion! He related well to the group of High School students we had and gave them a new perspective on what to do with their "chops" from marching band"
