Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! All is well here. Keeping busy with the G. B. schedule. Make sure to visit
www.gbleighton.com for more tour date info! Also, go to my MySpace and check out some of the new songs I posted off of Jade Murphy's album,
Restless. I recorded the drum tracks for him a while back at A440 studio in Mpls. It turned out great! I'll also have samples from the other albums I've been a part of over 2007 posted soon!
As far as the marathon...I finished! In a little less than 4.5 hours (it was a bit hot that day). Now, it's my wife Christy's marathon we're concentrating on. The baby should be here within the next month! Take care everyone!

Life has been very busy as of late...
The G.B Leighton is going great! I love it! It was a very busy Summer. I haven't been that busy playing since back in the Fade 2 Shade days when we ran our selves ragged. The people in the GB family have been great. I'm no longer the new guys in the band with the change over of piano and violin player. Mark and Natalie make a great addition to the band. We had a very successfll tour of the south where we were able to be spoiled in a HUGE decked out tour bus for a week(I'm not going to lie I actually felt a little like a rockstar, my own bed and DVD player!!!) i'm most definitely enjoying being a part of G.B. Leighton.
Also, I've been training for the Twin Cities marathon over the last 15 weeks. By the time this 18 week training period is over I will have put in over 500 miles!! I'm tired, but excited! If you don't have any thing going on the morning of October 7th come on out and find a spot along the 26.2 miles...Myself and the other 10,500 people might need a little encouragement along the way. I'll be the one in the green headband.
My mantra the last 15 weeks...
I run to make my heart stronger so I can love more.
I run to make myself mentally tougher so I can think clearer.
I run to strengthen my body so I can keep up with my job, wife and child to come.
Which brings me to...LASTLY! Christy and I are going to be proud parents in February!! This I am most excited about. I can't wait!

Happy late new year!
Things have been going well. The G. B. Leighton is as great as I thought it would be. The guys are great and the music is great! I'm having a blast! The new G. B. Leighton record will be coming out this spring. I can tell you first hand it's going to be very good! I think for the first time, this album will give an honest representation of the live GB show. Full of energy, great vocals, and have I mentioned the drumming?!?!
So I got the chance of a life time... I got to sit next to Kenny Aronoff through out the whole recording process. He was hear for 4 days and did an amazing job. Kenny being on of the most recorded drummers in history (and he's still going strong), is like sitting next to a living legend. It's the equivalent of a lead singer getting to sit with Paul McCartney, Sting or Bruse Springsteen while they're singing final cuts on their next album! Needless to say, it was an unbelievable experience!! I can't put into words how much I learned. However, I will be on the upcoming album, just not playing kit. I had a chance to work with producer Don Dixon adding all of the auxiliary percussion on the album which was also a great experience.
Lastly, I have now joined the Ellis Drum Co. family! I just received my new Ellis drum kit a few weeks ago and it is amazing (looking and sounding)! The guys there have been great to work with and I am very happy to be endorsing their product. They are a very reputable local company and do great things for the drumming community here in
Minnesota
. Also,a huge thanks to Paiste Cymbals! They have really stepped up their support since joining G.B. Leighton. I truly appreciate their faith in my playing!
Also, you can go and check out my MySpace site for more frequent updates. I have put some new music up recently. The first track, Is a piece I wrote this last summer for Jeffrey Peterson Dance Co. out of
New York
. It's composed of almost entirely me playing different forms of glass, along with Casey Smith playing classical guitar and sitar. It accompanies a dance duet that was premiered in
Manhattan
and the
Twin
Cities
last summer. It was recorded at the American Guitar Boutique in
St. Paul
.
Well, that's all for now. Take care!
9-26-06
Well, I have a new gig! I started with G. B. Leighton last week Wednesday! I am now the full time drummer. I have to say I feel VERY fortunate to be on the stage with these guys! I've grown up listening and opening up for G. B. Leighton. If my memory serves me right, 9 years ago when I was a part of Fade 2 Shade, we had the awesome experience of opening up for them at the Heart and Soul Festival in
Minneapolis.
That was my first experience with G.B. and I have had the utmost respect for them since. These guys are great musicians and wonderful people. Like I said, I feel very fortunate. So, come on out and see a show. You can visit their website for a full show listing. We'll be playing in
Acapulco
,
Mexico
in January! There are details on the site about that trip as well! Take care!

Better late than never right? Well, It's been a eventful 8 months.
First and foremost, I'm married and very happy! We're excited to spend the rest of our lives together (along with our new dog Chloe!)
I am no longer with the Jesse Lang band, however I am still playing with the former members of the Jesse Lang Band in a new band called Trashstar on a part time basis as well as a band called Beautiful Trigger fronted by Carly formerly of the band Krush. I also just finished a weekend of subbing for G. B. Leighton which was a great experience! All the guys in that band are great players as well as great people.I got a chance to play all the GB classics as well as quite a few new songs. Be ready to hear a great new album coming from Brian and the boys very soon! I've been doing quite a bit of subbing work lately as well as studio work. Here is a list of the albums that I have already recorded and will be coming out in the near future. Keep an eye out for them in stores.
Jacob Martin
Jade Murphy
Shane Martin
Beautiful Trigger
Chris Atkins
Jesse Lang
Brody
I have also continued doing some clinic work. Recently, I conducted a clinic up at UND
Grand Forks
which was a blast. I'd like to thank all of the students from the area High Schools and UND for attending! Well, it's marching band season so that will consume half the schedule these days and then the random sub gigs each week with cover the rest. For more info on my performing schedule you can visit my "MySpace site" which is much easier to keep updated with that info. Everyone take care and enjoy the rest of your summer!
Ok, so it's been a while... (again)The
Jesse Lang band is doing great! I am truly blessed to be able to perform with some of the best musicians in state. Were keeping busy out there, in state and out of state. We are also starting to do some Acoustic shows at selected clubs around the state. You can check out her site to see when. You will also see me using a BRAND NEW drum set at our shows that I received as a gift from my Fiance! You heard me right, she gave it to me as an engagement present...She's the best! I can't really explain how it looks so you'll have to come check it out. All I can say is, it's the coolest drum set I have ever played on! Brian Spaun at
Spaun drum Company did an AMAZING job on it!!
On another note... I have been in the studio recording for quite a few artists these last few months. I will be appearing on a sampler album being put out by the
American Guitar Boutique in the near future. I played drums for 5 of the artist that are on that album...More info to come! I will also be doing a full length album with the lead guitar player from the local band Dazy Head Mazy, Jade Murphy at the end of February. There is definitely some good stuff coming out of that, he's a very talented singer-song writer in his own respect!
One last thing...for all you drum dorks out there(like me). They are using one of the songs from my CD called "I Hate Parades" on a drumline website called
Lot Patrol...Check it out if you have a chance!
Well, that's all for now.
Take care of yourselves and keep warm!

Ok, so it's been a while... I hope everyone is having a great summer! The website has had a few problems latley so I was unable to update, but now it's good so here goes...in bullet style.
-
Jesse Lang broke her ankle in Sturgis in a fluke accident so we've had a few unexpected weekends off. We start back up on the 10th!
-I recorded the last 2 drum tracks on Jesse's CD at Master Mix studios with Tom Tucker and Jim Weber. It should be out in the next 2-3 months... really! And it's good!!!
-Jesse released a "Live" CD that is available at shows now. The sound quality is average but I think the performance by the entire band is really good! (if I do say so myself)
-I played at WE FEST last month with 4 country artists including Johnny Bird. We opened for Charlie Daniels and Toby Keith... Fun was had by all... Yeah, i'm a little bit country.
-I'm now working with a new stick company called,
Innovative Percussion. They're great!!! Really nice people and an AWEsome product!
-Just finished up the 2005 Minnsota Drum Set Camp. It was great fun and I learned a ton, hope it shows in my live shows... We had a chance to hang out with Shawn Pelton(Saturday night live and Sheryl Crows drummer) and Gordy Knutson(Steve Miller) and we had almost 50 drum sets on stage for a performance!
- Oh yeah...and I got an "i pod" which has changed my life!
Well, that's all for now. Take care and enjoy what's left of the warmth. Happy Labor Day!
5-24-05
Wow, is it really already May? I'm not exactly sure what happened to the last 4 months, but if I find them I'll let you know.
I'm having a great time playing music with Jesse and the gang. It just doesn't get old! Her CD will be coming out soon. There was a little delay in the process and now they're back at it, and from what I have heard it sounds AMAZING! Of coarse it has one of my new drumming idols playing drums on it,
Kenny Arnoff! This guy is unbelievable, you should check out his resume, you probably have quite a few CDs in your collection with him on them.
Like I said, playing is going very well with the
Jesse Lang Band. We've had some great shows and there are many more to come. There is talk of even some out of country shows coming up soon, I'll keep you posted! For now check out her website for more information on the CD and the Schedule. I'd also like to thank Ed Clift from Paiste for inviting me to do a short talk and playing clinic at
Ellis Drum Shop in
St. Paul
last week. May is Paiste Cymbal month at Ellis Drum Shop! That's all for now, make sure to check out Jesse's schedule and come on out to a show. There are quite a few really fun outdoor festivals coming up that are worth the trip out!
Happy Memorial Weekend!
Take care!
1-27-05
Well, it's been a great start to a new year! I have finished my first 3 weeks with Jesse Lang and every thing is going very well! The musicians I am getting the opportunity to play with are AMAZING! Great people and great musicians. I couldn't be more excited! We have had a couple of great show in the last 3 weeks and I am looking forward to many more. Check out
www.jesselang.net for upcoming shows in your area!
Some more news...
Two of the tracks from my CD are going to be used in the upcoming film titled, "Cross Country". "Off the Beaten Path" and "Simple Melody" are the featured tracks. They are in post production with the movie and I will get you more information as it comes to me.
Life is good...busy... but good! I hope all of you are off to a good start in the New Year! Take care and maybe I'll see you at a show soon!

BIG news! I will start performing with Jesse Lang as of New Years Eve. Jesse Lang is yes indeed related to Johnny lang, she is actually his younger sister. She is a very talented singer/song writer who just was awarded "Best New Artist" at the Minnesota Music Awards held in September. She has some big moves coming up in the next couple of months including a new album at the end of January. I have had the opportunity to hear a couple of the tracks, and I am impressed to say the least! Kenny Arnoff, one of my favorite drummers is behind the kit for the album. Should be a good time learning his beats! For more information on Jesse Lang visit her website. www.JesseLang.net you will also find the tour dates on the site as well for those interested in coming out to see a show!
Reminder...
Check out the new video section as well as the new photos and the clinic section for those interested. I thought I'd mention that on some computer screens you may not see the "Video" link on the left. In this case you may have to click and drag down on the left navigator buttons to see the video section link.
Well, happy holidays to everyone! May your travel be safe and your stomachs be full!

Hello again!
Well, as you can see I have finally had a chance to change some things around on the site. I just met with my friend Ryan Marinkovich and we uploaded a couple of the changes. Now the front page is dedicated solely to the CD and the "NEWS" page is on its own. There is also a CLINIC link that has been added for those who are interested in seeing the content of the clinics I have been giving. Lots of little updates and changes have also been made throughout the site. The COOL changes that are coming up in the next few days are a video section on the site which features clips from the 2004 Minnesota Day of Percussion clinic and concert that I performed. There will also be some additions to the photo section as well. Those changes will be up very soon! In the process of up-dating the site, the last news update was lost...oh well, here is the abbreviated version:
-I'm still performing with
Honeywagon (Check out the new updated schedule page!)
-I'm also playing with an original alternative rock group, Dear Jupiter...Good people, good music!
-Thank you to Modern Drummer Magazine for the positive review on my CD!
-The hidden track on the CD is a real feel practice pad with crazy guitar effects put on it.
-Congratulations
Minnesota Brass Percussion section, best in the world for the 2nd year!
-Vote Martin Sheen...aka Jed Bartlett (West Wing)

HOWDY!
Well, I guess I let this little write up slide a bit...I'll try not to let it happen again. Let's see, what's new? Well, it's almost summer, I'm still waiting for that uncomfortable, sweaty, 90 degree day to make me believe it!
The web site will be taking on some changes soon, courtesy of my friend Ryan Marinkovich. He's going to be adding some video clips of one of my recent clinics, mostly just me soloing on drum set. Exciting stuff! There will also be some other modifications including a new photo section and a drum set clinic section to the site as well. These changes are long over due, I think I mentioned some of these changes like 6 months ago...better late than never!
CD sales are pluggin' along. I've been trying to do as many things as possible with it from TV bummper music
"Nate on Drums" to concerts and clinics. It's not a (insert favorite radio station here) type of CD but it's making it's way out there. Thank you to everyone who has purchased it and even more thank you for the kind words about the disc. It's on a million music sites now that digital music seems to be the trend. Basically, just do a search for it and about 10-15 digital sites will come up.
I'll keep you posted on any other late breaking news. If you ever get a chance come on out to watch the band
Honey Wagon , I've been playing with them for about 8 months now. It makes for a great night at one of your local bars.
Well, take care and let me know when summer arrives... Oh one more thing! People have been asking what the instrument was that was used on the hidden track on the CD. Well, I'll let you know on the next entry! Clue: It's not my mouth or ping pong balls...
Ryan

Hi again, Well another month has passed... Holy snow!! Holy cold!! Holy snow!! I walk outside and I have to admit I get a bit upset with Minnesota. I know people say it makes you appreciate the summer, but... enough is enough, if it was 30 degrees with one snow fall per winter I would still appreciate the summer the same. Look at me, I'm talkin' about the weather again, I must live in Minnesota.
Coming up on March 7th there is a local TV program called
"Nate on Drums" that will be using tracks off of my CD for intro. and outro. music to the show. the program airs at 11:00pm on channel 45. They seem like cool people promoting local entertainment. In order for them to stay on the air they need viewers so check it out and tell some friends. Other than that CD sales are moving along and I'm still playing with the band
Honey Wagon , as well as doing some subbing for a solo artist by the name of
Mary Cutrufello .
Fade 2 Shade did a show in disguise this last Tuesday at the NHL All Star Fantasy Camp. It was Just Matt, Craig Melissa and I and it was a blast. We went under the name of "Miss Konduct", we thought it was more appropriate. Amazingly enough all the songs came right back to us after not playing them in 10 months. I guess that's what playing 250 shows a year for 2 years straight will do to you. Well, everyone take care and maybe I'll see ya on down the trail.

Hellooo! I just wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy New Year!! It's been a crazy start to the year so I'm finally getting a chance to update the site. I just finished the MPA day of percussion and WOW... I'm tired. What a great day though!! I want ot thank all of the students who participated in this day, what a great audience. It's an awesome feeling to see so many(about 800!!!) great percussionists gathered in one spot who are all so interested. To those who purchased the CD...THANK YOU! I hope you enjoy it. Also, to the amazing Matt Ferry for putting it all together...you did an AWEsome job!
Doing these clinics really puts me on the spot and to be honest every time i'm a bit nervous, but it's great for me as a player and I just hope I can pass on some helpful information to another percusionist. Anyone else who is still interested in purchasing a CD you can scroll down for more information. Thanks again! Now it's off to play the Saturday Night gig. Take care!
Ryan

Howdy Ya'll! I hope everyone is making it through this daylight savings time (other wise know as really cold and dark). It seems to all come at once... the cold and dark are a bit hard to get used to even though we do it every year. I'm packing quite a bit of info in this entry but hopefully in the next couple of weeks there will be a more organized way of doing this. I'm working on web site upgrades...
So with that here's a not so little update...
Before I get in to the CD stuff Here are a couple of other things. I will be doing two clinics and one concert coming up in the next couple of months. Both of which will involve concepts and performances from the new CD and ARE open to the general public!
12-10-03: St. Cloud State University : 4:30 drum set clinic - 8:00 concert
1-10-03: Minnesota Percussion Association Day of Percussion: Drum set clinic - Times TBA
I am also still playing with Honey Wagon on a pretty regular basis. Along with subbing for a couple other groups sporadically, I've been keeping busy. CD sales are going well and people seem to like it. I'm now in the process of setting up some album reviews with certain publications and getting it set up on all of the digital music download sites. Thanks to all of those people that have purchased it and to those who are helping me with the sales in their schools, stores and homes. However, I still have many box's of CD's stacked in my room, so...
Here is an updated list of where the CD's are being sold:
Electric Fetus -- St. Cloud and Minneapolis, MN (in the local section)
Let It Be Records --downtown Minneapolis, MN (in the local section)
Barnes and Noble -- St. Cloud, MN as of November 28th (in local section)
Brewed Awakenings (Grand Rapids, MN)
Al's Music -- St. Cloud, MN
Well, I'm getting ready to head to the south. I'm going to Louisville, Kentucky tomorrow morning to P.A.S.I.C. (Percussive Arts Society International Convention). That's basically a fancy way of saying "a gathering of drum nerds". Needless to say I'll be surrounded by my own kind for 5 days. I hope to come back INSPIRED! If you have a second my good friend and publicist Jesse Dubuque has started a new company on the web (selling t-shirts), check it out, it's hilarious!
Ya'll come back again!
Ryan

Hello Again! Well, I finally figured out how to change this news section on my own. I feel technologically advanced, yet still behind... Just to keep everyone updated, the CD is well on its way!!! There about 7 tracks completely finished, another 3 that just need to be mixed and tweaked, and 2 that are in the process of being finished. It has been quite an adventure to say the least. I've learned a ton... about music, patience, and persistence. Another thing I've learned is how much passion myself and others truly have for playing percussion but also how it can't always stand on its own. I'll get more philosophical with that on a later date. There have been many great people that have added their amazing musical touch to these tracks. I can't tell you how much musical talent has walked through the doors at Angel Beach Records this last 3 months. I've gotten the chance to play again with great friends and also meet some new ones. The CD entitled 'Perfectly Human' will be released in late July and will be available for purchase in local music stores or via the web site. As for my live schedule, it should be up soon! I'll be continuing to play with The Mike Terrio Band as well as with a group called Ticket to Brasil and the occasional Fade 2 Shade show.
Take care and maybe I'll see you at a show soon!
Rhythmically Yours,
Ryan

Welcome everyone to my new web-site! Hopefully this site will keep everyone informed as to what is happening with my percussion endeavors. First, I am still playing with Fade 2 Shade on a very part time basis. We do about 1 show a month or so. Second, I am also playing with the Mike Terrio band which has been going very well! What a great bunch of musicians to be playing with. I will also be doing some sporadic drum set clinics through out the state in up coming months. Lastly, I have been putting in tons of hours on my CD that will be coming out this summer. People ask what exactly I'm recording and it's a bit hard to explain. I don't think this will answer all questions but here goes.... it's a kind of electronic meets acoustic percussion as well as body percussion, concert percussion, vocal percussion mixed with a taste of marching percussion with lots of ethnic percussion, guitar, flute, baby sounds, all mixed together in the styles of Jazz, hip hop, dance, blues, afro-cuban, and other unexplainable styles. You'll just have to listen to it when it's done. I like to think of it as good driving and cleaning music. There will be quite a great musicians on this CD Like F2S's Matt Everson(guitar), Mike Terrio(blues harp), Brett Lobben(tabla), Eric Sundeen(kitchen utensils), Joel Matuzak(kitchen utensils), Jim Jacobsen(kitchen utensils), Minnesota Brass Drumline, Pat Daniel(slide guitar), Terry Vermillion(drum set), Clay Pufal(flute), Eon Anderson(electronic percussion), JD Steeles(vocal scat), Billy Hawn(congas), my nieces Holynne and Skylar(being kids), Billy Thommes (Jonny Lang's drummer), Eddie Clift (Paiste Cymbals Rep.), Melissa Carlson(vocals), Sam Sarfati(fretless bass), Paul Liebinow(upright bass), and a few others not yet named. I am extremely excited about the progress and can't wait to share it with everyone. I'll keep you updated! As for live gigs you can check my gig schedule or visit the F2S site and the Mike Terrio site on my link section. Well, thanks for visiting. Take care of yourselves.
